Marine biogeochemist in Polar coasts and oceans
Off to #Goldschmidt2025 for a few days of geochemistry joy! Ill be talking tomorrow (Monday, session 13e) about (yup) glaciers and isotopes, but more importantly check out Helena Pryer's poster Wednesday afternoon and @rhijones.bsky.social poster on Monday afternoon! @bas.ac.uk

Bit delayed in posting about this, but here's a new(ish) paper out about glaciers, silicon biogeochemistry, and the polar regions, with a load of fantastic colleagues! www.nature.com/articles/s43... @bas.ac.uk

Exciting new paper using lab-on-chip technology in Greenlandic fjords, producing high-resolution data needed to understand the controls on nutrient cycling and, so, sensitivity to climate change @bas.ac.uk @noc.ac.uk @mattmowlem.bsky.social agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10....

The SiCLING team completed their fieldwork, with two days of sediment coring with the RRS Sir David Attenborough's workboat, Erebus. Lots of mud! All to investigate nutrient cycling in coastal Antarctica @bas.ac.uk (photos thanks to Jamie and Pete!)

We had the first sunset at Rothera in weeks a few days back, meaning the evening/night light is perfect for stunning Antarctic photos! @bas.ac.uk

The SiCLING Rothera team is complete! Enjoying working on the boat, collecting water samples for chemical analysis from coastal Antarctica @bas.ac.uk (thanks to Eva Riehle for the photo!)... next stop, sediment sampling...

Got out on the water today, in glorious weather, to sample seawater and water particles, all to understand glaciers, nutrients and biology in Antarctic coastal waters @bas.ac.uk @biopole.bsky.social

Happy new year everyone, from Rothera Research Station! The weather hasn't been too kind recently, so it's been a fair bit of indoor science for us. But here are some fine lenticular clouds from the other day @bas.ac.uk @biopole.bsky.social

There's a tradition at Rothera Research Station each Christmas... a themed door-decorating competition! Here is our entry... whatcha think @bas.ac.uk? (A fun diversion on a windy afternoon in Antarctica... I did also get the lab set up! Honest! 😅)

And arrived at Rothera Research Station (18 years after I last left)! A beautiful day to arrive! Lots of inductions to do over the next few days before science commences! @bas.ac.uk

Delighted to say Tova Wang passed her PhD viva today! I wasn't on bsky then, but here's me making up time with a link to her paper from earlier in the year about nutrient cycling in Greenland fjord sediments @UoBEarthScience www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Made it (despite the storm and floods, thanks to the efforts of GWR!) back to Bristol! Love this place, and excited to cheer on Tova Wang in her @UoBEarthScience PhD defence today!
