my desire to not make things worse vs my desire to just come out everywhere and to everyone and go to the courthouse and change my name and etc

groan
(the real thing is to wait a little for some other family stuff to die down and *then* i can do whatever i want/know what bridges to burn)

FHSKFHSJ I KNOW... I truly would not have put it this low if it was just walking around skyhold talking to people T_T, like that's an A for sure
January 3, 2026 at 11:46 PM
if you made it this far, congratulations! yes i should have made this a blog post or something but who has time for that really anyway thanks for reading~!

AND DA WINNER:

Silksong

It's perfect, it's like Hollow Knight but better and I can't wait for the DLC, I need Team Cherry to just keep having a fun time doing whatever they want and I'll reap the benefits

(also lacenet is that good shit, tbh, but that's just a little side bonus)

Citizen Sleeper 2 - didn't make me cry like Citizen Sleeper 1 did but this is still a damn fine game. The (second) best "i want to play a good TTRPG but i don't have a GM" game you can get.

(first is CS1, not counting Disco Elysium since that's a book)

also the soundtrack!!!! the ART!!!! AAAA
January 3, 2026 at 11:21 PM
DEATH HOWL - if it wasn't for the top 2 being such heavy hitters this would be my easy GOTY. Soulslike deck builder about accepting grief in a mesolithic european spirit world? The game's a banger the art's gorgeous I love the whole thing and it made me *like* having to remake my deck repeatedly.
January 3, 2026 at 11:21 PM
Children of the Sun - VERY late addition to the list, telekinetic sniper puzzle game where you kill your way through a weird psychedelic cult you escaped from? I love it, this was made in a lab for me to eat like a cupcake. Finished it in like 3 hours but Mmmmmmmmm what a good 3 hours.
January 3, 2026 at 11:21 PM
Saints Row 2 - see my posts about this from when I finished my whatever-th playthrough, a lot of this has aged like doodoo and it looks ugly but god if this isn't kind of the perfect video game still
January 3, 2026 at 11:21 PM
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - Sometimes a game is really hard but in a way that makes you feel like you're really good at video games and have been personally chosen by the gods

I dunno if this is *really* that but it was a lot of fun and I beat the optional bosses I was convinced I'd give up on
January 3, 2026 at 11:21 PM
Dark Souls 3 - yeah ok I used to be a soulslike hater but at this point I Get It, it's a good-ass game (I still have to beat the Ringed City). Would be placed higher if it didn't include series staple trash platforming :')

S TIER (THE SAUCIEST OF SAUCES):

Stories from Sol: The Gun-Dog - (muffled sounds of me chewing on the aesthetic of this lovely little retro styled VN) MORE PLEASE THERE WAS A CLIFFHANGER
January 3, 2026 at 11:21 PM
SIGNALIS - (pointing aggressively) SEE i'm a real qualified transfemme i liked the lesbian resident evil!!!!!

it even mentioned The King in Yellow!

nah fr though i don't love survival horror normally but I had a really good time with this
January 3, 2026 at 11:21 PM
Dispatch - i just think aaron paul is neat

(it's a very solid little narrative about people *actually* trying to change, redeeming supervillains (or not), daddy issues, etc)
(i'd recommend it to more people if it didn't have so much retching/barfing in it)
January 3, 2026 at 11:21 PM
Unfair Flips - it's a game where you have to flip heads 10 times in a row on a coin toss. Absolute Cinema. Peer into the darkness within your own soul.
January 3, 2026 at 11:21 PM
Hades II - I keep thinking I like this game less than I do, but only because Hades was *SO GOOD*... I think the *game* is better here for sure but the *story* was a lot better in 1, and that's probably what my favorite part was originally... (really I think that's still what Supergiant does best)
January 3, 2026 at 11:21 PM
Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 - thank you *again* Strange Scaffold, this was a fun match 3 game *AND* a really nice little narrative about game development and art and stuff.

...very difficult to sell this game to other people but it's dope, i promise
January 3, 2026 at 11:21 PM
NIGHTREIGN - ah, *elevated* friendslop...?

"what if fortnite was elden ring" is a... wild idea, but the fact that this experimental game is as good as it is is delightful. I've put like 200 hours into this or something, I like having to make the snap decisions and playing Dark Souls on 5x speed
January 3, 2026 at 11:21 PM
CloverPit - ah, another pit-type-game

"what if balatro was grimy ps1 graphics and playing slot machines in hell/purgatory"

well, a lot better than I expected honestly. fun to manipulate probabilities and buy the weird little totems that help you, and also fun to see big jackpot money win go up
