Just watched Goodbye June, and I take back everything I ever said about Johnny Flynn when he was just that annoying bloke in the Cineworld ads.

‘I find it all a bit comforting’: why Zodiac is my feelgood movie
The first 2026 entry in our ongoing series of writers calling attention to their comfort films is David Fincher’s thriller

I hope Paul Hickey turns up on his motorbike to do some pathology soon #Lynley

Morse does not give one solitary shit.
He turns up to a murder site, pissed off that someone's interrupted his hobbies by being inconveniently dead, flirts with any woman present whilst making Lewis do the legwork, then gets bored of it all and goes to the pub.
My man.

As a kid, I remember my parents watching Inspector Morse on Sunday nights seemed like the most boring thing ever, and would always be my cue to go have a bath and get to bed in readiness for school the next day.

Barely a day in, and 2026 is already way better than last year.
As 2026 marks 30 years since the TV Movie was first broadcast, we're celebrating all things Eighth Doctor this month... which we're calling #McGannuary!

I bring Sutekh's gift of one of those big tubs of Mini Cheddars.

Do all these 'If you start watching the movie at..., this will happen on the stroke of midnight' posts take into account PAL to NTSC conversion rates and the time difference between DVD and Blu-Ray, or am I the only one losing sleep?

Did your review of the films of 2025 include mention of Sarah & Duck, Renford Rejects, Sorry I've Got No Head and The People's Book of Records?
Didn't think so.
Mine did though.

Times change. Relationships fail. Friends, lovers and places come and go. But one thing prevails: at some point, every Christmas Eve, I'm going to watch George Lazenby have his bonce twatted against the side of a bobsleigh run.

And I couldn't be happier.

Presents are wrapped, everything's prepared, small people are asleep. Time for a warm mince pie and the greatest film ever made.

It's not really Christmas until Tony needs Gary, and Gary needs Tony.

My Mandela Effect is that I was convinced there was a @smershpod.com episode on Ronin, featuring @johnrain.co.uk and someone like John Thomson discussing the triple threat of Bond villains in the movie. Alas, I fear I've dreamt this.

Just watched Aftersun (I know, I know), and if anyone needs me, I'm going to be crying into the void for the next ten years.

Someone's never watched The Daemons, or The Mind of Evil, or Terror of the Zygons, or The Claws of Axos, or...

Watching Spider-Man 3 for the first time since the cinema to appease the 5 year old. 90 minutes in and we've yet to encounter a likeable character.

It's ridiculous how many solid Christmas cooking and baking tips I'm genuinely taking from the shorter one of Sam and Mark.

A tad behind on my Eccleston Big Finishes, byt I've listened to the whole of the Nine/River boxset over the last few days, and the final story is just sublime. Top tier BF.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Few things make me laugh more than a Smersh on a film I know well, and this one is a blinder.

I'll temper my hopes and assume the most exciting thing we're getting today is a video of Bill from Mud saying 'Happy Doctor Who Day'.

First time watching Thunderball in years, and whilst there is undeniably some cool shit going on, I still find the lengthy underwater scenes interminably dull. Sean has never looked better, mind.

Mainlined Series 1 and 2 of Blue Lights over the last week. Best thing I've watched in donkey's years. Like a Northern Irish Wire with the characterisation of early Spooks.
