This book is a wonderfully authentic celebration of teen fandom, told with heart, humor, and honesty. The all-female creative team—Meghan Fitzmartin (writer), Lisa Sterle (artist), Dearbhla Kelly and Heather Breckel (colorists), Jodie Troutman (letterer), and Elizabeth Brei (editor)—brings Cassie’s world to life with warmth and nuance. From the first page, you sympathize with and root for Cassie, a protagonist whose struggles and joys feel instantly relatable.

Boom! Box deserves credit for championing a title that normalizes fandom in a positive, affirming way, rather than dismissing it as “cringey.” The use of chat messaging as a narrative device feels fresh and real, while the creative team’s eye for detail perfectly captures what it’s like to navigate teenage life on the fringes of popularity. A smart, heartfelt story that celebrates community, creativity, and what it means to be a fan.
