Far be it from me to suggest that teaching institutions should put teaching at the centre of their activities, staff reward and promotion ceriteria. Perish the thought!

Started reading the wonderful #Katabasis but this line has me thinking it’s a bit too meta for pre-semester reading:

“No one ever suggested that perhaps, in addition to doing his research, Professor Grimes should have been fulfilling his duties as a teacher…”

Thrilled to be heading to @unistrathclyde.bsky.social today for the Oral History Society conference! I’ve got a lovely morning of fascinating papers before presenting myself on interviewing men about contraception in 1970s Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Naturally, this poster features heavily…
FPA poster c 1969: the pregnant man. A man stands facing the camera with his hand on a seemingly pregnant belly. Caption reads: “would you be more careful if it was you that got pregnant? Anyone married or single can get advice on contraception from the family planning association”

If you’ve not had the chance to view the amazing exhibition, William Macewen: At the Cutting Edge, go go go!

It’s free and full of fascinating archival items from his illustrious history: from his job as a police surgeon, to his innovations in clinical photography and nurse training! 🧠

It was an absolute privilege to be at @rcpsgheritage.bsky.social yesterday for the premier of ‘The Boy from Bute’: a fascinating documentary tracing the unsung story of Sir William Macewen - the grandfather of #neurosurgery 🧠
A photo of the RCPSG exhibition, featuring atlases of the brain.

#TLOU 2 is maybe my all time favourite game and I could talk about it forever: I hated the hate then and I hate it now.
kristinwh0.bsky.social
In a show, the character can pause and reflect on their path. The character doesn’t have to be over powered and capable of killing 20 npcs.

#TLOU is a phenomenal adaptation that is making amazing new decisions rooted in a 19 year olds revenge plot. It’s doing an amazing job.
kristinwh0.bsky.social
I really need people to understand that in a *game* the narrative goal is to drive the player forward, alongside entertaining and challenging play.

In a *show* the narrative is central. We, as the viewer, don’t have to be compelled to move forward - the character does.

The fact that it harms trans people should be enough to call out the ruling, in any case 🤷🏼‍♀️.

But to call this a win for women or feminism or womanhood or whatever else is false. Any restriction on body autonomy is a restriction on us all.
kristinwh0.bsky.social
Feminists have spent centuries challenging what it means to be a women, allowing the individual to carve their own paths. The Supreme Court ruling does not protect women, it harms them and will harm some more than others (not just trans women, but - as we see in sports - black women too).
kristinwh0.bsky.social
In the 20th century, women’s activism focused on the right to choose: choose to work, choose to have children, choose to reject heteronormativity. This was seen as a subversion of gender. This was gender non-conformity.
kristinwh0.bsky.social
To say that a person cannot change, challenge or play with their gender is a rejection of the notion that we are in control of our own bodies. The rhetoric and logic that led to the Supreme Court ruling is the same that overturned Dobbs.
kristinwh0.bsky.social
As a #historian of #reprohealth and feminist activism, I’ll never see trans rights and reproductive rights as distinctive issues: they are both fights for body autonomy and the right to control our own destinies.

Please follow @cgh-glasgow.bsky.social and join us in standing against transphobic, ahistorical and unscientific rulings that do nothing but further the patriarchy and the rise of fascism.

Trans rights are human rights🏳️‍⚧️♥️

Often the focus of responses to the UKHE crisis is on history within the humanities, but this interdisciplinary focus allows us to look more broadly at the changing structures in UKHE and how they affect the history discipline.
kristinwh0.bsky.social
We want to see how historians have adapted to changes to their disciplinary boundaries. We also want to see how social sciences have embraced historical perspectives in their teaching.
kristinwh0.bsky.social
What is this event?

In the context of the crisis in UKHE, & particularly the recent attacks on the history discipline, historians are finding themselves increasingly absorbed into other disciplines, affecting their identity and research boundaries.

Reducing womanhood to bio-essentialism is the most anti-feminist, conservative stance: a patriarchal tenet that fundamentally harms all women.

Sex has never been binary. Trans and intersex people have always existed. To suggest otherwise is unscientific and ahistorical.

Bold of them to pick a fight with an autistic PhD who might not have time to eat every day but ALWAYS has the time to read the fine print and be petty xoxo

Today on “we need rent controls/reform yesterday” I’m fighting with my landlord, whose “flat” (mould pit) I left in 1 Oct 2024.

For 6 months he hasn’t paid me my deposit. He sold the property in Jan 2025 for a £10k profit.

Today he requested £490.00 for a “sparkle clean” (which is illegal)

Thank you Daniel, I’m so happy!!

Now back to marking… 😂🫣
