It also probably would have been better to schedule this for last term of school so the kids could adjust somewhat. Xmas holidays is crazy timing.

And in the meantime many young people continue to witness harm? My classrooms are full of discussions about algorithms, about misinformation, about bias, misogyny and manipulation. Trying my hardest. I think protecting young people is a good thing.

Not patronising anyone. Suicides will also happen because nobody is doing anything. No easy answer except tech lords being made to take responsibility. And as I can’t make that happen - in the meantime this seems like a place to start.

Hey, I’m not out to hurt or punish any young person. I’m a high school teacher and see the damaging effects of tech every day at work, I also see it negatively affecting family members.

High school teacher here - I see kids are being absolutely damaged by social media and being online all day. It’s messing with their ability to build good relationships, to discern ‘truth’, it makes them anxious and disrupts their thinking in all sorts of ways.

Children’s brains are not mature enough to deal with the content that social media delivers, nor their addictive algorithms. Tech giants are responsible - we as a society have to intervene somehow.
