My idea is that Glaide is too dumb to comprehend the cosmic horror of being controlled like a puppet and is therefore Bastawros’ (the bird) golden boy. He’s trying to push Kalari (the wolf) to be more like the gator: dumb, fat, and obedient :>

They are his puppets, whether they like it or not…

Glaide (gator), Kalari (Wolf), and Bastawros (Bird) sit in a dark room while Bastawros uses a magic relic to force his mercenaries to stuff themselves. Glaide gives into the control, while Kalari tries to resist.
