Also if you are looking for opening books, I would pick one of the "starting out" series from Everyman Chess based on the opening you want to play.

There is also the site chessreads.com which has a good collection of books sorted by rating and topic.

I would use MCO as a reference and not something you read through. If you are okay reading chess notation, I would suggest Irving Chernev's "Logical Chess: Move by Move" which is a game collection.

Wow! I can see how this is possible, but it's still surprising. Straight out of some dystopia.

Ouch! Hope you feel better soon.

IMO It's not worth paying attention to the rating shown in Chess.com's game review.

Never noticed this. It's brilliant!

So Lichess starts at a higher base rating of 1500 and then uses Glicko 2 (whereas chess.com uses Glicko 1 and starts at a lower 1200). More here: lichess.org/page/rating-.... They are different pools at the end. chess.com does run lower in both blitz and rapid.

I didn't have a great performance, scoring 1.5/5 in the open. However, the only saving grace was my first game and first win against a WFM (Women's FIDE Master). She gave up a piece for 3 pawns, but I managed to get a better position and she lost on time. #chess #chesspunks

The only other time when I find myself sans phone these days is while playing an OTB chess match. Of course, there is no talking though.

Ha ha, against generative AI, sure. But they will not beat modern Stockfish.
December 2, 2025 at 6:08 PM
Yes, Gen AI is especially bad at drawing chess boards since it's more like memorizing the pattern as opposed to the exact rules. It may draw a correct one if you ask it to write a program that draws an 8x8 chess board. But that's harder for laypeople know.

I would like to use it. But they aren't available yet where I live in North Edinburgh.
