X Log in Open app Secretary of War Pete Hegseth v O @SecWar Earlier this morning, on President Trump's orders, I directed a lethal, kinetic strike on a narco-trafficking vessel affiliated with Designated Terrorist Organizations in the USSOUTHCOM area of responsibility. Four male narco-terrorists aboard the vessel were killed in the strike, and no U.S. forces were harmed in the operation. The strike was conducted in international waters just off the coast of Venezuela while the vessel was transporting substantial amounts of narcotics - headed to America to poison our people. Our intelligence, without a doubt, confirmed that this vessel was trafficking narcotics, the people onboard were narco-terrorists, and they were operating on a known narco-trafficking transit route. These strikes will continue until the attacks on the American people are over!!!!

Yet today, Congressional Republicans chose to shut down the government, rather than work with Democrats to lower costs or protect Americans' health care. For months, Democrats have been sounding the alarm, imploring Republicans to work with us to undo their harmful cuts to Medicaid and extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits in order to prevent millions of Americans from losing their coverage. Failure isn't an option here. Republicans control the House, Senate and the White House. They could reverse course, reopen the government and work with Democrats to save health care. If they don't, 15 million Americans will lose their health care, including up to 3.4 million Californians on Medi-Cal. Hospitals will close, children won't get their medication, wait times will get longer, seniors won't be able to see their doctors and people will still get sick. 66 President Trump and Congressional Republicans just purposefully shut the government down - putting our economy, security, and critical government services at risk. They did so simply to protect their cruel healthcare cuts and make it harder for working people to afford their everyday needs. Republicans have full control of the House, Senate, and White House. While Democrats stayed in Washington to seek a solution, Republicans took an extended vacation at home. This shutdown could have easily been averted, and the responsibility for it lies solely on President Trump and the Republicans' shoulders. There is still a way out of this mess. We call on Congressional Republicans to come back to D.C., put the American people over their extreme agenda, and negotiate in good faith a bipartisan budget that lowers costs and prevents a full-blown healthcare crisis. Whatley is referring to Brown's conviction for robbery with a dangerous weapon in 2014, which is a felony. He was incarcerated for that crime prior to his conviction and then sentenced to a little more than 6 years in jail. Brown served 100% of his sentence and was then released. Executive Order 145, which Cooper signed on June 9, 2020, created a task force. That group, known as the Task Force for Racial Equity in Criminal Justice, was created to "recommend solutions to stop discriminatory law enforcement and criminal justice practices, and hold public safety officers accountable." Those recommendations, critically, were not even released until December 2020. Brown was released months earlier, in September 2020. So there is no way the recommendations could have had any bearing on Brown's release. Further, the task force did not establish policy or make law. It simply recommended policies for the leaislature to consider. None of the task

Working-class New Yorkers are leaving New York City at significantly higher rates than wealthy residents. According to research by the Fiscal Policy Institute, affordability concerns - especially housing and the cost of raising a family - are major drivers of population loss in New York state. The report notes that 90 percent of this loss comes from New York City, with Black and Hispanic residents, households with young children, and low- to middle-income families most likely to leave. In contrast, wealthy New Yorkers have left the state at much lower rates, with the exception of a temporary surge in their migration rates in 2020 and 2021 that was likely induced by the Covid-19 pandemic. In typical years, the average New Yorker has been four times more likely to leave the state than the top 1 percent of earners.
