These excellent scholars shared their work at the British Women Writers Conference. They discussed Dacre’s Libertine and corruption, Gothic stories and fear of vampires, Shelley’s Frankenstein and the erasure of feminine spaces, and Shelley’s The Last Man and the Cult of Domesticity. #BWWC2025

Just in case people don't know the context, this is a policy called splitting the letters, developed by fundamentalist Christians to use feminist and queer language and culture to split the T off and then turn the others against each other.

You can watch their 2017 conference planning it.
UPDATE: The National Park Service have now removed “queer” and the “Q+” from the web page for stonewall, along with any mentions of transgender people.

Why are conservatives trying to destroy the humanities? Ursula LeGuin told us in her National Book Award speech: “Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art. Very often in our art, the art of words.”

Sabrina Ionescu just shot the same score as the NBA men in the 3-point shooting contest. After not being allowed to play in so many gyms growing up, after being told to act like a girl, after hearing women can’t play, I loved watching this moment knowing what it means to the little girls watching!

The conservatives policing of who is a woman is horrendous, terrifying, and disgusting. When I was a child, my parents were called into school because officials were concerned I wasn’t feminine enough. Expect more stupidity as they try to make us all passive, pregnant, and stupid.

Here’s my contribution to the conversation about the farce we all witnessed in the December 5th congressional hearing. The presidents acted bravely, and we should applaud them. Thanks as ever to @GutkinLen, my heroic editor!
Why the Presidents Couldn’t Answer Yes or No
They behaved like academics. That’s a good thing.
