exa also displays correctly via downscaler, so it was just the LCD panel not handling the ultra wide res correctly. downscaler image is of acceptable quality, but definitely a bit on the softer side compared to native 15khz stuff

in the final stretch of this whole thing? finally got the new tube paired with the chassis. spent about 2hr tuning things until i finally got a clear image

more fun issues to sort out. really hoping it's just the LCD not playing nicely with the weird horizontal res from the downscaler. will see if it displays right once I put the new tube in

astro update: retrofitted it with a 4:3 flat panel by unico. main downside is that it's not an exact match (27" vs 29"), but it fits decently with 3D printed brackets.
currently waiting on a tube replacement i have lined up, but in the meantime this works well enough (and it also supports VGA, lol)

as an amusing side note, my bro seems to have found a pic of the same cab in its natural habitat. the game HUD aligns with the burn-in on my tube, as does the stains(?) on the top left arra of the control panel and the button config.

it sucks because everything else generally worked out!! even the marquee light turned out to be working after I rewired it
