I look down, dejectedly, then look up at a featureless, smiling figure, with a ribbon saying "I'M AN ALLY!" above them says "Hey I believe in you! You belong here." The figure has thought bubbles below them that read "I'll pretend to be nice for diversity points on my C.V." and "I feel threatened by their success, so I'll put them down behind their back." "I can't blame myself for letting my guard down," I think. "I couldn't have read their minds." Panel 1: five bandaids of different shapes with the word "why" on their centers. Panel 2: "I shouldn't need thick skin to be a mathematician." An armadillo with a scaly, armored shell. Panel 3: "I wish I could draw without this fear."
