i shouldn't have expected more but it feels indicative of so many of the most insane things about what the corporate environment of game development has become that a company can build a legal case to destroy your life for casually saying that gta6 will have online multiplayer features

the first phantasia port is mostly just ps1 phantasia but with full va, the second remake was the one they actually made meaningful design changes for. it's weird.

all their ps1 era remakes are just like, Cool, they're just newer editions of a bunch of nes games with really nice sprite art. their vita remakes of the ds tales games address really severe problems those games have with terrible dungeon and combat design too. they used to be a gold model for this.

namco used to do a lot of relatively lower budget remakes and a lot of them were actually justified, every earlier release of phantasia had major combat design problems (you spend literally half the game watching time-freezing magic animations)

i kind of hate it but i can recognize a part of that is just that i didn't click with the gameplay at all. the story discussion kinda confuses me because it's just kinda like... not a very good story? not in atrocious ways just kinda badly constructed. but i can see why the combat would click.

lttp has some genuinely kind of unintuitive bits of design i think the ice dungeon is one of the worst in the series and brings it down a lot

extremely funny that the entire plot of the matrix sequels is contextualized by the fact that they put simulacra and simulation in the background in the first movie and literally every big twist is just further playing on the concepts laid down in it and how they relate to its political allegory

feel like in isolation this one screen makes jisatsu 101 genuinely seem like one of the best stories ever written
