If they do that, there’s very little chance they re-sign Hutchinson. So they give up 3 firsts and get older and maybe marginally better at the position going forward. Why would a team that has traditionally drafted well make that trade?

OPS is the most ridiculous but perfect baseball stat. It means absolutely nothing practically. It's adding 2 completely different metrics measured independently on different scales and yet somehow is a perfect measure of a hitter's overall ability.
