Many thanks to you and your WaPo colleagues! I closely followed WaPo's climate coverage for many years while a subscriber. But I couldn't continue my subscription in good conscience... 😢

OMG! We already know what can happen!

Measles isn't just a rash! It's a systemic attack that cripples the immune system's ability to remember past threats, leaving the body open to a cascade of other infections and severe damage.

Since Venezuelan oil emits 20% more CO2 than other crudes, this is a case where you say:

If you must use oil, please get a light crude from elsewhere.

Venezuelan oil emits 20% more CO2 per barrel than light crudes! They are very viscous, requiring pre-processing and mixing with diluents before they can flow through a pipeline, and have a higher carbon content than other crudes.

Thanks! The speeches of Pausanias, Aristophanes, and the theory of Forms... Very deep concepts for Texas...

I agree! Patients can find the cheapest option for the drugs they take. But what happens if they need an expensive drug in six months? A drug that CostPlus does not carry and that their Part D plan has listed as Tier 5 in their formulary? Pay whatever the exorbitant going price is?

Yes! Yes! Yes! This is how scientists solve problems, and this is how we should start tackling this mess.

We need problem solvers, not naysayers.

And scientists are problem solvers!

💯 Medigap plans are not cheap. Plus, you must be able to predict the future and solve a complicated math problem before you can choose the best Part D drug plan for you. Companies change their formularies and prices of less common drugs fluctuate drastically from one year to the next!

Enrollment in Medicare Advantage plans increased from 7.6 million in 2008 to 34-35 million in 2025 (56% of total). Many are "pushed" into MA plans by the promise of lower costs and "extra" benefits -"discounts" on dental services- not realizing (until later!) how tightly managed these plans are.

There is not ONE Medicare, @mcuban.bsky.social. What you describe with "mostly" is traditional Medicare with a Medigap plan (if?) that does not require referrals. Most new enrollees these days are "pushed" into Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans that have doctor networks, require referrals, etc.
