I was not surprised to read on Wikipedia that it made a profit while not scoring great reviews.

But what did surprise me was how much trouble it sounds like Universal had in making it. In retrospect, it seems like a total no-brainer.

It gave me the same vibe I used to get from watching Looney Toons as a kid - that it was referencing things so deeply rooted in the cultural zeitgeist of an earlier time that I felt the reference without ever having seen the original it was referencing.

Sort of like how one of my students likes to shout "What the FAKK!" in response to nothing actually happening, "Black Friday" is starting to feel like a semantically void linguistic import. When "Black Friday" sales last over a week, what's even encoded in the name?

May as well call it "My Friday".

This week is a normal work week. Especially busy for me as I'm gearing up for final exams. But I'm still hearing about "Black Friday". In fact, I've been hearing about it so much I missed until just now that today was actually American Black Friday. I had forgotten it was a single day, not a season.
