I think it's the usual right wing projection, since--thinking of M4L, for instance--the right IS guilty of astroturfing a bunch of the time.

But I'm just thinking about how in my own life "regression" has, in hindsight, not so much been regression as . . . my highest high points were points where I had exceeded my capability, that I incorrectly took to be the new mean, if that makes sense. But eventually, that point *becomes* the mean.

That's a good point. I remember seeing somebody somewhere make a distinction between practice and focused practice.

(Actually, *cringe* I think this may have been Gladwell, but still, yeah.)

(Before you pipe in to say, "No book club would want you, Joe, so anybody who reaches out to you can be safely dismissed," let me note that my books *have* been featured by book clubs that approached me either through my publisher or through a local institution.)
