"Next time you are boiling milk, custard or sauce, try placing a large marble in the pan with it: it will stir it automatically" (p282 'Lady Hackett's Household Guide' by Deborah Buller Murphy 1940)

Baggage allowance restrictions on flights seem to get tighter every year. Back in the old days you could take a Shetland pony as long as it fitted in the overhead locker or under the seat in front.

I chose this recipe because...I had the ingredients to hand; as good a reason as any!It was easy to mix up, although the dough was a little too dry and I had to add 3 tbs milk to make it soft enough ...
