The vast majority of revolutions end with regular people in a worse state than they were in before it, either because they fail and embolden the autocrat while giving cover to his abuses, or because they succeed but the new regime is just as totalitarian or moreso but now it's a war zone too.

That isn't what the first movie said to a lot of people, though. It might have been what it was trying to say, but by centering the white dude from the capitalist empire, its point became "a white capitalist needs to come do everything better than the indigenous people and save them."
