This is my kind of therapy—sunset, water and a dolphin. 🌅🐬

Did you know dolphins often swim close to shore?
🐬 They sometimes chase schools of fish into shallow water.
🐬 Coastal shallows offer calm conditions and fewer predators.
🐬 Dolphins are curious, social, and highly intelligent animals.

Ghost stories weren’t just entertainment—they reflected the isolation, danger, and awe sailors felt on the open ocean. Next time you’re aboard Lady Washington, imagine the creak of timbers and the shadows in the rigging. What tales might our sailors have told beneath the stars? 🌊✨
ladywashington.bsky.social
⚓ Strange lights flickering on the masts were whispered to be the souls of drowned shipmates.

⚓ Off Block Island, mariners swore they saw the Palatine Light, a phantom burning ship.

⚓ Even legendary pirates weren’t spared—Blackbeard’s headless ghost was said to swim Ocracoke’s waters.

👻 Set sail this National Ghost Hunting Day with tales from the Age of Sail…
‎ ‎
Life at sea was full of mystery—and sailors filled the nights with ghost stories:

⚓ The Flying Dutchman, a spectral ship glowing in the mist, was said to haunt sailors as an omen of doom.

Irish folklore was no exception. Tales of monsters warned of storms, shipwrecks, and mysterious waters. Beasts like the Onchú or Muirdris may have grown from sightings of whales or giant squids, while stories of the Selkie or Púca traveled in the memories of Irish sailors to distant ports.

Sailors once mapped monsters on the seas—Irish folklore gave them plenty to fear. ⚓🐉

During the Age of Sail, sailors filled the unknown edges of the map with sea serpents, mermaids, and monsters that blurred the line between real danger and imagined peril.

This is the first class where women outnumber men and includes someone who has already flown to space on a commercial spacecraft and set a record while doing so.

Edgar graduated from Skyline High School, went on to earn her bachelor’s at Dartmouth, and completed her Ph.D. in geology at Caltech.

The last 7pm sunset until spring arrives this week, and by Nov. 2—when clocks roll back—we’ll have lost more than two hours of daylight since fall began. ☀️
