In 2016, we began our @fuseonline.bsky.social research into the consumption of energy drinks by children, and their damaging health effects.

Now, that research has helped influence an impending government ban on the sale of energy drinks to under 16s.

My hero - #MotherPukka (aka Anna Whitehouse) - has championed flexible working (#FlexAppeal) and part time working.

The tide is shifting and it is becoming normal to work part-time. Today is a hurray for the part-time workers, happy #PartTimeWorks day!

Before covid I was nominated and acknowledged within the Timewise Part-time Power 50*** and then contributed to Belinda Morgan's book alongside my part-time colleague Dr Helen Moore (you can also read a @fuseonline.bsky.social Blog about this).

Are there things I can't do/ attend because of working part-time - yes!
However despite this, it makes me a better at my job, is good for me and my family.

I have moved into roles in a part-time basis and been promoted to Professor as a part-time academic.

Working part-time is a privilege, I fully acknowledge that.
Do I have frustrations - yes!

🧵Today is #PartTimeWorks day!

I have been quite vocal in talking about my role as a Research Professor in a University being #PartTime because I believe #PartTimeWorks – in all kinds of jobs, at all levels.

I have been working part-time since my son was born in 2012.

I welcome the consultation, and encourage everyone, especially parents, school workers, health professionals and young people themselves to respond and have their voices heard.

As my comments to the BBC show, these drinks are an established part of youth culture. Clearer signalling about the drinks’ negative health consequences is essential, but this ban is a positive step forward in prioritising the health of our young people.
