I admit that I don’t understand why Americans aren’t out in the streets by the millions every day, and twice as many at weekend. Do they believe that freedom is free?

I tend to view things in cycles. The Victorians were hypocritical and paternalistic imperialists, but were they worse than Columbus, Cortez and that lot of genocidal, faithless and greedy invaders? And what was so great about stone-age headhunters? Perhaps many humans aren’t humanists.

“Books are inefficient” - no. Textbooks are useful (in whole or in part) or useless. All other books are either good, mediocre or bad. And a good book will nourish you even longer than a family feast with loved ones.

Wrong question, because it wasn’t a revolution. It replaced an oligarchical monarchy by a quasi-monarchical presidential oligarchy. None off the foundations of colonial society changed.
