.. adds he has to turn it into a matter of faith... They HAVE to be the answer, only they can affect change. And posters are hung on their streets with the war propaganda I felt that was to play on their Nationalism.

I amateurishly try to grapple with that as well in a recent post - the who claims Orwell question. I do feel you were a bit unfair to your friend however as while Winston does think the proles are the future, there's a part he also kind of says, you wouldn't think so looking at them, and then he ..

I am keen to read Brave New World this year. I made 2025 'My year of George' and read a bunch of Orwell and wrote about the experience.

I haven't read Huxley yet, but in 1984, I don't think Orwell goes much into what the Party or Big Brother is - just the description make it sound like a Communist gov. I contest that billionaires in a post AI and Tech blowout could very well recreate that as they dont care about anyone else
