LandonCalling (They/Them)

Computer Science student at WGU; machine and hand knitter, crocheter, and all around lover of yarn;
There are plenty of other hobbies and trades that we identify by the craft even though a machine does most the work. (I.e. one would say “I am a welder” not “I work with welding machines). Similarly a person who knits a sweater is a knitter regardless of whether they used sticks or a machine.

Nice find! I’ve got the same machine. I really like how easy the brother electronic machines are to use.

I don’t understand why people think this is a flex. So because it’s harder to do crochet by machine that makes your craft better? What about hobbies like sewing or woodworking? Machines exist to make it easier to do the things we want.

Totally get that. Especially these days. The machine side of machine knitting always scratches my problem solving itch. I suppose for me in that way it’s meditative like a puzzle is. Trying to find the right pieces to fit the right places to make a whole picture.

I’m both a process and a product knitter, so I enjoy both hand and machine knitting. When I want a garment finished to wear, I machine knit it. When I want to do something slow and meditative I hand knit. These days hand knitting is mostly meditation for me.

I do both, and they both have their place. I enjoy machine knitting because I can go from idea in my head to finished object in a couple of weeks. I enjoy hand knitting, because it slows me down and relaxes me.

Oh! I hadn’t even considered voc rehab for her. That is a smart idea. I’ve been working with them to get my CS degree.

Nice! I'm getting myself one of these for Christmas. How are you liking it? I've only ever worked with Japanese style machines up to this point.

I've gotten both of mine from facebook marketplace. I would also keep an eye on any other buy/sell/trade groups in your area. There's also Machine Knitting Sales on ravelry. You might also see if there are any machine knitting guilds in your area as they will have machines to sell occasionally.
