Well it always had to do with Thanksgiving, right? Black Friday exists because 1) Thanksgiving is a mobile holiday that is always on a Thursday at the end of November 2) Americans use it a marker to do shopping for Christmas right after

You might be right but even that case there’s no day-after-thanksgiving day in any of these places that would be the “unofficial start of shopping season for Christmas gifts”

In their context it doesn’t imply anything! It’s just an arbitrary color essentially. I don’t know if “in the black” is even used outside the US, let alone non-English-speaking locales. It makes sense in the US because Thanksgiving is a huge cultural marker tied to a date

America has done a lot of cultural exporting across the entirety of the world but I think the one thing that actually pisses me off is Black Friday not just because it’s so nakedly consumerist but because there is literally no conditioning factor for it to exist outside the US
