lol I’m just predicting “she” and “he” to fall out of use and then thinking it’d be funny for “we” to supplant “I”

English, 2425 CE: “we’re going to the park later, do you wanna come?”

Who are you going with?

“Just by myself lol”

As a signifier for end-of-November consumer bargains? Absolutely
November 28, 2025 at 8:32 PM
Yeah but the origin is America’s Black Friday I mean — or they’re further derivatives of derivatives of it
November 28, 2025 at 7:54 PM
Well it always had to do with Thanksgiving, right? Black Friday exists because 1) Thanksgiving is a mobile holiday that is always on a Thursday at the end of November 2) Americans use it a marker to do shopping for Christmas right after
November 28, 2025 at 7:34 PM
You might be right but even that case there’s no day-after-thanksgiving day in any of these places that would be the “unofficial start of shopping season for Christmas gifts”
November 28, 2025 at 7:23 PM
In their context it doesn’t imply anything! It’s just an arbitrary color essentially. I don’t know if “in the black” is even used outside the US, let alone non-English-speaking locales. It makes sense in the US because Thanksgiving is a huge cultural marker tied to a date
November 28, 2025 at 7:17 PM
In an adjacent universe… that’s us tweeting like this 😔
November 28, 2025 at 7:14 PM
Yeah but (American) Thanksgiving doesn’t even exist elsewhere so it’s like completely unmoored from reality. Just foreign companies doing it out of sheer consumerist imitation
November 28, 2025 at 7:13 PM
America has done a lot of cultural exporting across the entirety of the world but I think the one thing that actually pisses me off is Black Friday not just because it’s so nakedly consumerist but because there is literally no conditioning factor for it to exist outside the US

All for the gram. Doesn’t get much frencher than this!!!
