I see. As you say, you seem to be using a definition of the word "interpret" that goes beyond the dictionary definition. In my talk, I was using the dictionary definition when I suggested that AI told might help us to interpret language patterns.

I'm a bit confused. I used the Cambridge definition of interpretation above. If you agree with the definition and accept that AI models can explain things, doesn't it follow that they can offer useful interpretations?

Interesting! The Cambridge Dictionary defines interpretation as "an explanation or opinion of what something means". Do you think that AI is not able to explain things? Perhaps try asking ChatGPT to explain "Corpus Linguistics". I think you'll find that it's ability to explain is pretty good.

Can't believe one week has already passed since the end of the @cl2025.co.uk conference. This year, I had the great honor of serving as one of the plenary speakers, giving my talk on AI and corpus linguistics in a really lovely venue. Big thanks to @robbielove.org and all the organisers. #CL2025

Thank you so much for coming! So, what are your thoughts? Do you think I made a convincing argument?

Thank you so much for coming to my talk last week! I really appreciate the kind words about the talk, too. The picture is fantastic! It's one of only 3 or 4 that I have, so it's very special.

It was so lovely to see you at the conference. Thank you for the kind words about my talk. It seems to have generated a lot of discussion, which is great to see. As you say, the photo really does perfectly capture the evening, too. I could not have asked for a better venue.

Arriving early for the start of the Microsoft AI Tour here in Tokyo. A great way to finish my sabbatical year, where I focused my research, talks, and app development on this revolutionary technology.

A bit late, but I’m currently in Erlangen, Germany, enjoying the first day of a @rc21project.bsky.social symposium. It was a great honor to open the event with a talk on AI integration with concordance methods, focusing on new #AntConc functions.

Thank you! Glad you found it useful.

Thanks for taking the photo. It’ll be a nice reminder of the event.

Thanks! There are so many possibilities.

Glad you like it. The new interface is much simpler than in the past (but with the same functionality). I’m hoping it will be easier to use and explain.

Nice summary of the main point from my talk. Thank you for coming!

Today was my first day back at Waseda University, where I had the pleasure of hosting Nathan Wang, the CTO of the educational AI company Edexia (YC W25). Very much enjoyed discussing the role of AI in education and hearing about the company's plans.

Back in Japan after a fantastic half year sabbatical at the University of Queensland. Good news is that I'll be continuing my connection with UQ as a visiting scholar until 2028, serving as a consultant and developer for the Language Data Commons of Australia (LDaCA) project.
