She’s been safe for years in her hutch from coyotes and lynx but these dogs weren’t deterred by me chasing them off. I didn’t think they’d come back, and I never thought they’d get her. We’ve had bears, coyotes, lynx, foxes and other dogs on the land before… nothing.

Oh 23 years of life experience has shown me that we will. We’ve known each other since we were twelve and have seen the other fail and fall and rise and rule their lives with such empathy and enthusiasm for life. Of all our friends we knew, it’s just him and I that have deep talks still.
