To the photographs you mentioned I would add that of Alan Kurdi, the Syrian child on a beach. Just like Liam's, his family was seeking asylum. Taken in 2015, that photograph was such a universal moral image, one that Pope Leo recently referred to in his exhortation on Christian love for the poor.

Brooks refers to the Filipinos' uprising against Marcos as a mass movement that we should emulate. But Marcos' approval rating was below 25% and all of Filipino society turned against him including the military. As long as Trump's approval remains above 40% it won't happen here.
