Whale sharks have these amazing patterns on their backs which I tried to replicate here with underglaze, carving, and glaze #lasrubieraspottery #amacoglazes #firedinaskutt

I've been working on making similar sized mugs. These are one of my best attempts #lasrubieraspottery #mayco #firedinaskutt

A successful experiment attempting to make a Japanese stone lantern out of clay. It's now drying and waiting to be bisque fired. Keeping my fingers crossed the clay survives its transmutation into ceramics #lasrubieraspottery

I'm about to do a bisque fire. These pieces will go up to 1800°F and will change irreversibly into ceramics #lasrubieraspottery @firedinaskutt

A whale shark salt creature. I find the patterns on their backs hypnotizing. I hope the combo underglaze glaze will work well. Now it needs to undergo a bisque firing and a glaze firing. Stay tuned for final results. #lasrubieraspottery

Another mug layered in horizontal stripes that are melty and flowy. This reminds me of a sunset by the beach. #lasrubieraspottery #firedinaskutt #mayco #coyoteglazes

A mug glazed in horizontal layers. I'm looking for a name for this type of melty, drippy effect. Drop your suggestion in the comments. Thank you! #lasrubieraspottery #firedinaskutt #amacoglazes #mayco

They are cups slightly larger than espresso cups. They are thrown from 10 ounces of clay and hold 4-6 ounces of the stimulant hot beverage of your choice. The walls are straight, the handles pulled, and their lower halves are carved in repeating patterns.

Don't you love it when a piece you designed comes out to be exactly as you envisioned it? I cut the threads on the clay so that after fired, it would fit the thread on the soap pump #lasrubieraspottery #firedinaskutt #mayco

This is a donut vase. Ever since I learned to do enclosed forms I have been fascinated by it. #lasrubieraspottery #amacoglazes

This is the last step before a bisque firing. The pieces you see here are in various stages of drying. Once they have lost all the moisture, they can be safely fired to 1800 °F. #lasrubieraspottery #firedinaskutt

Week three updates!

By the end of the third week we have laid down the carpet padding over all the will-be mats space. That will make all the ukemi we take soft as a feather.
It's starting to look like a dojo in there!

A Lunar Bowl I call Mare Cognitum - Sea of Knowledge to reflect what I learned from the first prototype about the proper application of the glaze that bubbles to form the craters and the water effect is better gaining a darker blue toward the center #lasrubieraspottery #firedinaskutt #maycoglaze

A new "tea for one" set. This one is thrown with dark clay and it's carved in botanical motifs. The teapot is a barrel body. The overarched handle leans forward to make pouring easier. The lid matches the mouth snuggly and it pours wonderfully. The piece holds a little over 10 ounces of tea

I enjoy making spoon rests. They are simple forms to make. Making the little whorl is supremely satisfying. People love to take them home and use them as spoon rests or as soap dishes. They also let me experiment with glazes without worrying too much about ruining the kiln shelves
