For the cost of a few highway interchanges, Rhode Island could have this instead.
Map showing a Providence-centered regional rail network running on existing rails. Blue line from Westerly to Valley Falls. Red Line from TF Green Airport to Fall River via Attleboro & Taunton. Green Line from TF Green Airport to Worcester.

It is possible that Salvador Dali saw the movie Twins
1968 photo of Dali wearing a red velvet sport coat with his signature upturned mustache Movie poster for the 1988 film "Twins" starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Devito. Both are dressed in tan suits with patterned dark green & beige shirts, brown shoes, and sunglasses. Arnold is standing up straight and Danny is leaning onto his side. The top of Danny's head just about reaches Arnold's shoulder.

Somewhere in Rhode Island, on a sidewalk in October - Just looking out at asphalt at that huge truck in the lot.

Such a lovely view from the outdoor seating area at my local cafe
A muffin and a large insulated coffee cup on a table. The cup has a big sticker that says "BAN CARS" and the view is of a parking lot

What sort of overhead could possibly result in a 38% fee per ticket? I'm just trying to take my kid and his friend to a damn soccer game. "Amazing Deal" my ass

do you just book a ticket from Providence to Framingham or something and just not get on the train? I've wondered about this

It's a pipe dream, but it would be really swell if the SRTA's Fall River-New Bedford Intercity Express bus was combined with 24L to run hourly between all 3 cities..

Bike racks and shelters at Exchange and Roosevelt? Be still my heart! This is where I catch the R-Line and I usually just take my bike with me because i don't have any better option. Soon I'll be able to lock it up!
ripta.com
RIPTA is upgrading four bus shelters with benches, bike racks, and more in Pawtucket. Starting Monday Oct. 6, 2025, three bus stops on Exchange St. and one bus stop on Goff Ave. will be temporarily relocated to the stops listed on this map: bit.ly/4pUpWxc.

Photo app showed me this memory from 10 years ago of my son's first hike. Lazy jerk made us carry him the whole way
A woman sits on a rock with her back to the camera. She is holding a baby who is wearing pink sunglasses and a knitted orange wool cap with a green "stem" that looks like a pumpkin. The summit of Mount Monadnock is in the background.

The present situation is certainly depressing, but it's at least encouraging to see a lot of noise being made leading up to and in reaction to these cuts. @pvdstreets.bsky.social does relentlessly great work towards that end.
laterbacon.bsky.social
The main issue is that it's a state agency, so the cities that are most served by RIPTA don't get any say in how it's funded. It's good on paper that we have one comprehensive transit agency for the state, given how small we are - but the Achilles heel is a state govt focused on cars and cars alone.

the one that's also blocking the bus shelter should be immediately hauled down to Allens Ave and added to the scrap heap

there's a handful of sugar maples in the neighborhood and they are all so sad looking :(
laterbacon.bsky.social
it will be really nice when South Attleboro returns to full service with actual bus berths added. That whole South Attleboro parking wasteland has the potential to be something really great since it's already a de facto transit hub.

just in the past 5 years within 1 block of my house, we've lost 2 huge maples, 2 giant red oaks, and a massive black walnut

Yeah, we were already at the northern extent of their native range and I wanted a tree that would get big pretty quickly, since my neighborhood has been really overzealous with removing mature trees. It's turned out to be the perfect choice, and the changing climate is actually beneficial for it.
