I would suggest to feel both in your hands if you can. Deck has some compatibility issues for some games but steamos is so much better than windows with instant standby and plenty of features more like a console. I don't have lot of free time so I love my steam deck since I can jump ingame in a sec.

Yeah, it's linux based but the the os is made to be used with the pad like a console instead of windows. Steam games work fine aside some with nasty anticheat. You can check protondb for that. For the mods, check reddit but windows games can run on Linux easily with proton that is baked in steamos

Mm well, the steam deck can also play epic games with heroic launcher/junk store. And it also has game recording baked in steam os. Also don't underestimate the clunkyness of windows vs steam os and no trackpads. Those save me hours when doing typing stuff
