As a North Side yupster, I've almost exclusively owned and driven hatchbacks and wagons. There's still a lot of interest in them, but from Japanese and European makers, not GM and Dodge. Though VW/Audi quality is as shitty as American manufacturers.

For a while, Dodge named their models stuff gun related (Magnum, Caliber, etc) and on the first day of one of my political theory classes (Dr. Jim Block at DePaul), he shared an article about this trend and asked the class why would a car called the Caliber need headlights that look like crosshairs?

It's a rebadged Opel and was only available for a few years. GM was basically giving them away because they weren't selling well at first. The line was discontinued right before the pandemic car market went berserk and the prices on them went parabolic since they gained kind of a cult following.

The good guys were framed by the bad guys and the bad guys were trying to catch and kill the good guys. Pretty scary stuff indeed.

100% agree. At this price, you’re still under $500 shipped for a platform with an excellent frame, decent wheels, and so-so drivetrain and brakes. I want to put a mid-drive Bafang crankset on mine. I’ve already purchased a hydraulic brake set but still need to put them on. All-in I’m still <$1000.
