Why? Many students regard a degree as a credential for a job or career. (And they aren’t wrong.)

Sure, age-related dementia is a problem. But Trump was a racist before he was 30. Now he thinks he’s powerful enough nobody can stop him from being a racist bully whenever he feels like it.

In most of the world, a yankee is an American.
In the American south, a yankee is someone from/acculturated to north of Delaware.
In most of the US, a yankee is a New Englander (when not a baseball player.)
In Boston, a yankee is someone from rural VT or NH who eats pie for breakfast.

Thank you for your service. Getting that information across is uphill work but really important

There’s something like that in Kage Baker’s Company books. Even though there is a hard copy of Science in this very apartment, my mind went to the Kage Baker first

There are lots of things that can cause bunions. Wearing heels, stiff ankles (so you bend at the front of the foot instead of the ankle), and of course injudicious choice of ancestors sets you up for all kinds of problems

I hate that sucralose is in so many medications these days! It’s such a strong migraine trigger I have it flagged as allergy to help pharmacists catch “inactive ingredients” before I pay.

(BTW, it’s in all colonoscopy prep solutions. I’m finding a compounding pharmacist in 5 years.)

Oddly, they don’t mention The Battle Hymn of the Republic. Or how there were Christians involved in the civil rights movement

Mamdani likes building bridges and talking about how great it is to live in New York. I think one of this would be a couple of Queens kids talking about what it was like to grow up there at such different times.

They did compare it to hand washing! They had a few people washing dishes under lab conditions where they could measure how much hot water/soap they used for a standard batch of dirty dishes. (I don’t recall if they used experienced amateurs or people who had worked in restaurant kitchens)

I thought it was parody, and I thought it was hilarious. I was well over halfway through before I looked up the author’s name (he’s not as well known as Nuzzi), and I thought he was working up to a joke about her sleeping with Vlad or zombie-Strom or Bobby FKr or someone famous enough to laugh at

Was it military science fiction? A hard-boiled police procedural? A guide to motorcycle maintenance? The idea of “an anti romantasy” makes me wonder how far you can get from romance or fantasy without going all the way to the Chicago Manual of Style

We also prefer chicken, but insofar as the problem is the poultry industry reaction to bird flu, that’s feels like an inadequate solution. Though a 6-pound bird involves a lot less wasted meat than a 20-pound one.

I don’t think it counts as feminism to want one woman free to do as she likes, where most other women are not free. A certain amount of solidarity is needed. I’ve seen too many anti-feminist women like Kay Ivey, Ann Coulter, ACB.
