💡 Obesity trends are driven by age meaning an increasingly ageing population could lead to further increases in prevalence.
💡 We find no generational effects suggesting that it is the environment rather than people that has changed.

In this article, Dr Magdalena Opazo Breton and I investigate the long term trends of high-risk obesity using different measures.

💡 We find that waist-to-height ratio is more appropriate than BMI in identifying risk, particularly in older adults.

📈Although the rate of increase in the prevalence of obesity and overweight are slowing down, they are largely driven by by age. This means than an ageing population in Ghana could mean further increases in the prevalence of obesity in Ghanaian women in the coming years.
