The contrast of beauty, life, and distance make Death Valley one of the most vibrant of places. I’ll keep coming back here

This was my guest room companion when I went to the Santa Barbara Writer’s Festival last weekend. He’s one of the Beeblebrox Bears that come from my friend Yvette, at yvettekeller.com/forty-two-pl.... The SBWC was awesome, as usual; a great writing weekend.

Who wrote it better? Me or AI?

AI:
Broadway lights blazing, eyelids crashing. 💡😴
NYC runs on endless energy—even when our batteries don’t.

ME:
This disgruntled kid and her disinterested mom are the perfect contrast against the frenzy of lights and activity of Times Square.

Me vs AI: who writes it better?

AI:
From mud to mirrors to the clouds above—progress never looked so reflective.

ME:
I want to show how the messy side of NYC can suddenly look beautiful when photographing for patterns, perspective, and the rule of thirds.

Life from death is how mushrooms grow, using the decaying matter as their home and nutrients. Life is tenacious and beautiful. buff.ly/4fRoS7V

Broken and torn apart--how are you put back together again? In The Ring of Roses my characters have to grapple with the evil in order to find the good again.

The juxtaposition of graffiti on a beautiful wooden door is common place in Barcelona. This graffiti is protesting fascism and racism; Guillem Agulló was murdered by a neo-nazi. Iit's important to me to understand the whole culture that I am portraying. The Ring of Roses.

I have seen so many lives change, pulled from this pit of loneliness and despair. The women I've seen healed and whole inspired my character, Cecelia. But first, they all had to go through some terrible times in order to find the way out. The Ring of Roses.

When walking early in the morning, I get to see some amazing sights like this fog rolling in between the mountains and the neighborhood. The city lights lit up the fog before the sunrise. buff.ly/4fRoS7V

How does a pile of garbage inspire a novel? This homeless camp is an expression of how lost and lonely this person is. Getting to a place like this involves a lot of small bad decisions: so how does Cecelia end up escaping from the trap she got herself into? The Ring of Roses.

A symbol of status in Barcelona, pillars were put in the middle of the doors or windows to show off wealth. For Cecelia, these pillars were a barrier and an anchor for safety on her wedding day. The Ring of Roses.

Had a fun argument today: Which movie was the worst. I suffered through Emilia Perez, and my friend suffered through The Substance. We both think that ours was the worst movie ever. What do you think?
