Book 1 - I was saving this one to the start the new year! Loved returning to Area X. If you’ve read the Southern Reach trilogy, then I think you’ll like this new addition. (I 100% did.) 💙📚

FINALLY finished my September stack (I was three books behind), so here is the October TBR. Honestly, my TBR is usually mostly spooky books but October has to be all spooky books! Got some brand new ones, some that have been sitting on the big pile for too long, and some classics. 📚💙
Play Nice - Rachel Harrison, Another - Paul Tremblay, After the People Lights Have Gone Off - Stephen Graham Jones, A Botanical Daughter - Noah Medlock, The Platform Edge: Uncanny Tales of the Railways, The Red Tree - Caitlin R. Kiernan, When the Wolf Comes Home - Nat Cassidy, Zofloya - Charlotte Dacre, The Ghost Bride - Yangsze Choo.

Book 89 - I read Russell’s Swamplandia! years ago and it wasn’t really my thing. But I loved the title and also thought I’d give her short stories a try. I did enjoy the title story and one other, but overall, it wasn’t my thing. Nothing bad about them! Just a personal preference. 📚💙
St. Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves: Stories by Karen Russell.

I’m at Citizens Bank Park to help the Phillies win. And no matter what happens, at least I got to try the special postseason Fall Classic Shake and stuffed turkey dinner eggrolls, both of which were delicious. And the shake mason jar is reusable!
The Phillies Fall Classic Shake - a vanilla milkshake with caramel drizzle topped with an apple cider donut, served in a reusable plastic mason jar with the Postseason 2025 logo. The turkey dinner eggrolls from Bull’s BBQ - turkey, stuffing, mashed potato, and cranberry sauce stuffed into an eggroll shell.

Book 88 - I’ve read all of Hurley’s books and I enjoyed them. I liked this one too, but it’s labelled as a novel and it isn’t really. It’s a collection of interconnected short stories set in the fictional town of Barrowbeck that move forward chronologically in time. Very Shirley Jackson-esque! 💙📚
Barrowbeck by Andrew Michael Hurley.

Book 87 - Really interesting nonfiction about one of the most successful Soviet spies in the 1930s-1950s - often underestimated by MI5 and others because she was a woman. 💙📚
Agent Sonya by Ben Macintyre.

Super excited to be participating in this again! Last year was fantastic. I’ll have copies of all my books (and stickers!) And I’ll still be home in plenty of time for the Phillies game. 🤣

Had a dream about dead cows last night and solved a major plot problem in my book. AI could never.

Book 86 - What a great classic locked room mystery! A twisty-turny plot that still comes to a logical conclusion. 💙📚
The Ten Teacups by Carter Dickson.

Book 85 - This is the first T. Kingfisher novel I’ve read outside of her Sworn Soldier series, and I loved it! Creepy, funny, great characters and Bongo, one the best dogs in fiction. (Watson was a big fan of Bongo.) So excited to hear her speak @doylestownbookshop.bsky.social next week! 💙📚

Crazy that the CLOWN IN A CORNFIELD Blu-ray is still on the bestseller charts.

Physical media alive and well. Thanks to everyone who’s checking out the movie and telling their friends (sequel 🤞)

“That was what he was known for. You’d see the bumper stickers everywhere. Even in 1980, I would go to the games, and I would still see cars with them on there. Everybody had one."

A photo of Linda Mitchell holding up an orange bumper sticker that says "Only the lord saves more than Bernie Parent" with a headline in black text over a white background that says "Her late husband coined the 'Only the Lord saves more than Bernie Parent' bumper sticker in 1974. It still resonates."
