If this is an 11th-century altar, then it would be the only surviving pre-Norman altar in Britain: a truly unique medieval treasure.

The only crime I see here is crime against data analysis 🙃

Yes, and/or anything you can find related to scrutinising for/ detecting misinformation/disinformation could also be useful, I think.

I think even better would be to share good resources that help people learn how to read critically more generally? This seems to be the crux of the problem. It probably depends a little on the goals behind detection - are you concerned with ownership? Quality? Reliability?

💯 this.
Also immediately made me think of @unlawfulentries.bsky.social book

Watching the US right now from afar and this is my exact feeling - on one side, the endless horror of the government, but overflowing admiration for the many regular people out there, each tirelessly fighting in their own ways

Also that book looks fascinating. I could totally see a linguistic ethnographic study in a barbershop, building on this.

I found them on instagram! Plot twist: they seem to enjoy travelling to Mexico.

Of course, now I also want to know where you are, what you're up to (and also encourage you to go inside and find out more 😁)

Of course then I was curious about Bablo. The internet suggests it's a Russian/ Slavic version of Paul.. or also potentially this?

Also like that they include both English for vibes, but also German for practical info (men's hairdresser, without appointment).

That would be a great project! Definitely can see some features that suggest global/transnational trends in hipsterish barbershop design (but also agree with @wordkunst.bsky.social re the photos. Have seen similar in Turkish/ Lebanese/ Afghan migrant neighbourhoods in both Sydney and Ghent)

Yes, the full statement is "colonialism is good (for us)". None of that expertise debunks *that* proposition.
