I’m studying to go to medical school. I’m a 40-something lawyer for a government agency. Is this a good idea? Let’s find out!
I’m studying for the right #MCAT, right? It’s got some health-related stuff —says right here you *can’t* get mono from riding the monorail.

Hey, I’m still in it to win it! 4/4 grades in Chemistry I and Medical Ethics this summer. Today begins Chemistry II. I’ve also started studying for the #MCAT during break. It’s 180° from the LSAT, which presumed no knowledge of law; the MCAT presumes much knowledge of biology and biochemistry.

Hot take: Ozzy, Chuck Mangione, and Tom Lehrer are your “celebrity deaths happen in threes” trifecta. No, Hulk Hogan does not get a look in.

Tested negative today! Finally able to run the errands I’ve been putting off while I was sick with Covid. Just in time for my first #chemistry midterm tomorrow, too.

Just over a week into summer quarter and I test positive for Covid for the first time! I’m resting up, but I have chemistry labs and homework that won’t do themselves.

Not to be too Old Man Yells At Cloud, but I remember when I didn’t have to spend a Tuesday evening troubleshooting my textbooks. And when I could buy them and not rent them for two years (for $200). Sigh.

Tomorrow begins the second quarter of Operation Forty -Something Lawyer Guy Gets into Med School. Two classes this summer: Intro to Medical Ethics Seminar and Inorganic #chemistry. Was expecting lab safety video; got 12 min video on how to keep a lab notebook instead — v srs!

So glad to hear my Dazzling Donor message on #tbtl! And so happy to see Tens following (and who I get to follow back). Guess I’d better post more regularly now. Summer chemistry starts next month; between now and then, I can make headway on my other project…

Not only did I pass, not only did I get a 4.0 (an A, essentially), but I got the highest grade in my #biology class! Operation Middle-Aged-Guy-Gets-Into-Med-School is off to a flying start! #pre-med #careerchange #medschool

Midterm 3 grades came out. (Yes there have been three. There’s one more as well as the final.) I find it interesting that the questions I got wrong weren’t due to lack of knowledge, but overthinking and not reading the question carefully. Which are totally things I do. #premed

My lab partner is dropping the class! That’s too bad; I hope things work out well for her. The college sent out an e-mail last weekend saying the last day to drop was coming up, so I suspect she’s not the only one who will drop. #biology #premed #pre-med

Attended my first live discussion with my #biology instructor today; normally I’m on my way home from work during the sessions, but I’ve taken the last week off from work. Interesting talk about the cell cycle, but I had to stop myself from blurting out answers! #medschool #premed #pre-med

Met with my academic advisor yesterday. If all goes to plan, I will graduate from #medschool when I’m 51. I knew that at some level, but confronting the number still… yikes. But I’ll be 51 anyway! Might as well do what (I think) is the best thing I could be doing with the rest of my life. #premed

As a kid interested in science, I devoured kids’ books about the body, and they treated bodily processes in an abstract way. Now that I’m doing a health-science post-bac program in my 40s, I’m learning these processes in more detail, and it’s like learning new facts about old friends. ❤️ #premed

First biology midterm today! It’s hard to get too exercised about it after law school exams and the bar exam, but still it’s a big part of my grade. I think it went well! #premed #pre-med #medschool

Lab was good! Lab partner is very motivated.

First #biology lab tonight! I’m way too excited about this. #premed #backtoschool

The thing that probably gives me the most anxiety about my #biology class is when the lab assignment says to draw what I see through the microscope. Friends, I can’t draw to save my life. Is that really what’s going to keep me out of #medschool? (No!) #premed #medicine

Biology class is starting with a #chemistry review. Much of what I remember from my one undergrad chemistry class was because of the grad student who taught my lab. Wherever you are, Katherine, may both sides of your pillow be forever cool. #premed #medschool

This week, I'm starting a college biology class with a view to taking #medschool prerequisites through a health-science post-baccalaureate program. I'm also working full-time as a 40-something lawyer for a federal agency. Bad idea or brilliant idea? Let's find out! #premed
