Colombian President Petro commenting on the US;

“A clan of pedophiles wants to destroy our democracy. To keep Epstein's list from coming out, they send warships to kill fishermen & threaten our neighbor with invasion for their oil."

It bothers me so much that people act like this is an insane concept. Dude, I am paying taxes on unrealized gains once a quarter - this is a totally normal idea.
imagine we had a way to tax assets and property

we could call it a property tax
very convenient that the rich ruling class techbros solution to income and wealth inequality will be solved by letting them accumulate even more wealth

If there's one thing I know it's that the answer to "why don't we have this good thing anymore?" Is always "because of Ronald Reagan"

It bums me out that the future of journalism appears to be me paying $80 a year to every person I know.
I like it better when I can have a couple of subscriptions and get access to whole newsrooms of professional journalists (and fact checkers, editors etc)

If you haven't yet watched the Yacht Rock dockumentary you absolutely should.
Watching talented people make amazing things together was such a boost to my mood.
Doobie Bros. release the “Minute By Minute” LP 47 yrs ago today.

“We were known for this big, muscular sound,” said McDonald, “and suddenly we were making these more intimate, keyboard-driven tracks. .. It was a blessing, but it also marked the beginning of the end for that version of the Doobies.”

Pluribus is really interesting, but in a very basic way it's just how the experience of grief feels. Everyone around you becomes a weird alien who wants you to be happy and act like them when that is utterly absurd.

You cannot gaslight me on grocery prices. I know what everything I buy costs at about 4 different stores.
Hassett on FTN: "Grocery prices are actually down significantly under Trump."

Fact check: "Average US grocery prices in September were 1.4% higher than they were in January ... and 2.7% higher than they were in September 2024 under former President Joe Biden, Consumer Price Index figures show."
Fact check: Trump falsely claims it’s only beef, but dozens of groceries have gotten more expensive this year | CNN Politics
President Donald Trump keeps saying beef is the only grocery product that has gotten more expensive during his second presidency.

I want to like Pluribus, but I got too stressed out and bailed early in the first episode. I'm going to give it another try.
