Hmm. Majoribanks St in Pōneke? But that’s mostly a “people who didn’t grow up here” thing not a tourist thing specifically

I've never had to wait more than 30 min in Wellington in the last year or so (it's walk-in only up here)

Hey, would you look at that, it's an above-minimum-wage PhD stipend! Please share this one far and wide (and NB to other funders: this is a choice you can make)

Applications are open for the Ag Emissions Centre’s PhD scholarships for study in 2026. These scholarships welcome students from diverse academic backgrounds. No agricultural background required, but a passion for climate change action and science to reduce emissions is a must.

I think people often overlook the impact of spending limits on NZ elections - yes better-funded candidates/parties can spend more but it is simply not a straightforward 'most money wins' game and focusing on that takes attention away from the *other* ways elections are won and lost.

Even when you do spend it, the message still has to have appeal. Taking a look at the actual numbers (vs percentage of party vote achieved) is quite instructive:

Money certainly helps but it's not a guarantee.

I read the third Dinotopia book I somehow missed this year and that was, indeed, a vibe

Dupont and Dupond in the original, do I recall that correctly?

Ah, the joy of freelance life. A couple of 2026 funding pools have just dried up, so if anyoneʻs interested in a project with a Wikipedian, now’s the time to get in touch. www.rove.wiki

I've known a few older men who 'didn't do' [email/mobile phones/etc] and without fail the ways they made this work involved women doing stuff for them, paid or unpaid

The last time I inquired into this the answer was not what one would hope but there's always room for improvement!

an extraordinary person with an extraordinary legacy who nevertheless didn’t take herself too seriously

when Gary Larson published this cartoon, she was in Africa and her institute was horribly offended and drafted a complaint

the whole thing was defused when she returned - she found it funny

Something you might note about this Nobel Prize article is there's a side bar on women and the Nobel Prize: www.snexplores.org/article/nobe...

Noting how few women have won science prizes.

My editor asked me hey: what are the stats for Black scientists?

There is no sidebar....
What’s so noble about the Nobel Prize?
The Nobel Prize might be the one science prize you’ve heard about. But does it really recognize the most important science?
