The Autumnal Equinox will occur tomorrow, Sep 22, 2025, at 2:19 p.m. Eastern Time. This is when the solar subpoint will be directly over the equator (meaning that the sun will be directly over the equator) and both hemisphere's experience the same amount of daylight and darkness.

Tonight, at 10:42 p.m. EDT, the Summer Solstice will occur. This is the moment annually when the Earth’s axis point more towards the sun than during the rest of the year. The solar sub-point will be directly over the Tropic of Cancer as the Northern Hemisphere’s astronomical Summer begins.

The Vernal (Spring) Equinox occurred today at 5:01 a.m. EDT when the Sun’s rays were perpendicular to the Equator. The length of daylight in the Northern Hemisphere will continue to get longer until the Sun is directly over the Tropic of Cancer (the Summer Solstice) on June 20th.

At 4:21 a.m. Eastern Time today the sun was directly over the Tropic of Capricorn, in other words it was the Winter Solstice (the shortest amount of daylight in the northern hemisphere).
