I was happy to help raise the flag for Pride Month and equality today with the The Mayor of Weston-super-Mare and community representatives and residents. Love is love and our world is all the better for more of it. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Happy Somerset Day, my lovers! The Somerset flag is flying proud and golden from Weston Town Hall today to mark the occasion.

Today we celebrate all things Somerset: cider, Cheddar, Glastonbury mud, and the fact we can say “where be that to?” and still sound poetic.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Happy St George's Day! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 23rd April is celebrated as St George's Day and St George is the Patron Saint of England.

We English are often low key about our patriotism and nationhood, except when it comes to sport, so it is important to reflect on our country on our national day.

Another great Weston Independent Market today in the town centre with good crowds despite the occasional drop of rain.

The market is back next Wednesday, and every Wednesday throughout the year, from 9.30am to 2.30pm.

If there’s someone who you think has really made a difference where you live, the BBC Radio Bristol Make a Difference Awards in September could be a chance for them to be recognised.

I visited Bristol Airport yesterday for a catch up with their team. It was particularly good to see the progress being made on the airport’s new £60 million public transport interchange hub, due to open in the summer.

A game changing improvement in public transport options and customer experience.

Watching the bullying and shouting down of President Zelensky in the Oval Office today by Trump and Vance is sickening. I stand with Ukraine.

Delighted that North Somerset Council have been shortlisted as a finalist at the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards in the Health and Social Care category to recognise our work developing a 24 hour response service that has helped provide better care, prevent hospital and care home admissions.

The Portishead and Pill to Bristol railway project is ON!

Following intense work by the West of England Mayor and combined authority, North Somerset Council, Network Rail and the Department for Transport, we’ve come up with a plan for a fully funded program of work to get started this summer!

In London this morning to meet Rail Minister, Lord Peter Hendy, at the Department for Transport. Important opportunity to work with West of England leaders and Mayor Dan Norris to promote the Portishead and Pill to Bristol railway line.

I’ll be presenting proposals for a balanced budget and 4.99% council tax rise to North Somerset Council’s executive committee next week, amid a worsening three-year forecast.

If approved, the plans will go to the next Full Council meeting.

The Government has finally implemented legislation that will see a Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) for plastic bottles and cans start by October 2027. More than 50 countries already do this, including Germany, who have achieved a 98% recycling rate.
