Long as fuck at over 3 hours but crazy script to juggle this many characters and disconnected plotlines without the movie getting confusing or falling apart as they intersect with each other. Not sure I’d say the structure fully landed with me but pulls off the ambition

Biggest surprise of this movie is Mark Wahlberg actually acting for once in his whole career
For PTA this is an improvement of a sophomore effort in every regard, right with the first night club scene you can feel the confidence in direction in comparison

Decent debut movie. I think the focus on Sydney and John’s relationship was interesting and the score was pretty good, though didn’t really think the dialogue and John C. Reilly were particularly strong here. PTA making this when he was just 26 is admirable though

I’m a bit back and forth on if this was better than S1. On one hand thought Vox as the main villain was a lot more fun compared to Adam who I didn’t care for (songs aside), and the animation’s a noticeably major improvement especially with that last episode

Maybe was expecting something a bit more from this with all the crazy high praise (I’ve only seen There Will Be Blood from PTA tbf), but still pretty great. Somewhat conflicted about the first 30 minutes or so pacing wise but it picks up momentum past that

Pleasant surprise, this brought back nostalgia for Telltale’s best work even if from a new studio. The animation quality’s a major step up from the old jank engine Telltale used and it’s basically like watching an adult superhero TV show the whole way (a la Invincible)

Wouldn’t say it quite matches the brilliance of Tetris Effect cause… it’s Tetris ya know? That’s timeless and I’m much more experienced compared to Lumines so its fusion of synesthesia and the flow it has felt like more of a novelty to me. But Arise still comes close!

Well crafted from Del Toro, felt like a mostly standard adaptation of the book though definitely an interesting difference in how it portrays Victor and his monster, with the former being in a more villainous light and the latter a less violent and sympathetic take

Adapted collection of one shots he made before Fire Punch. 2, 3, and 5 I didn’t care much for but the rest were good and well animated. Interesting to see where he reuses ideas later, Sisters felt like a precursor to Look Back. Also Nayuta and her brother “Kenji” lol
