Many thanks to @karanthir.bsky.social for featuring my book @livunipress.bsky.social on his blog & interviewing me about my research on Willibrord and the wider context of his biography, i. e. the Merovingian world around 700. Already looking forward to the next parts in the series!

The site of the 'Petite Marquise' in #Echternach, where structures dated to the 10/11th c. were discovered in 2020, is now covered with panels tracing the town's medieval history & showing some of the archaeological finds. Hopefully, we'll hear more about the preservation project 'Epternacum' soon.

During Pope Francis' visit to Luxembourg in 2024, Prime Minister Luc Frieden called Willibrord a 'European before the European Union'. In a brief article for @livunipress.bsky.social's blog, I reflect on the appl. of the label 'European' to early medieval missionaries. #MedievalSky

Today, I had the chance to visit the National Library of Luxembourg together w. Dáibhí Ó Cróinín & HE Ambassador Jean McDonald. We were shown some of the oldest fragments in their collection, incl. one of Gregory's Dialogues & the Hisperica Famina, both of 7th-c. date & kept at Echternach. 1/2

It was a great honour and pleasure to be able to launch my book on Willibrord at the Luxembourg Residence in Dublin yesterday at the invitation of the ambassador, HE Florence Ensch. I was especially delighted to see so many former colleagues and friends from the Irish medievalist community again.
