Or maybe this isn't just about political optics and, instead, like a lot of Californians (and Americans) he's fucking furious and is using his considerable platform to make that crystal clear.

This I agree with. And if the criticism toward Biden was made to be constructive, not to destroy the Democrats changes of winning the election, I'd have no issue with it. But that is not at all what happened.

I don't wonder why at all. People suck. The US is racist and misogynistic. And naive, ideological purists who are easily manipulated by an on-line ecosystem that turns complex issues into politically expedient talking points like "Genocide Joe".
May 14, 2025 at 9:32 PM
Sure, just keep telling yourself that so you can avoid reckoning with the role that folks amplifying this narrative played in pushing the election to Trump.
May 14, 2025 at 8:08 PM
My point is pretty clear. You're just looking for a fight (and proving my point in the process).
May 14, 2025 at 7:38 PM
Incorrect. My argument is calling Biden "Genocide Joe" and pushing people not to vote for him or Harris because of a horrific situation caused by dozens of countries over decades and made worse by Hamas' attack and Israel's insanely disproportionate response fucked us all, including Palestinians.
May 14, 2025 at 5:47 PM
Nope, that's clearly not my position. You understand how utterly MAGA it is to mischaracterize an argument, then throw in an insult to punctate the misrepresentation, right?
May 14, 2025 at 4:21 PM
This article proves my point. You can disagree with his policy decisions, but suggesting that he supported (or was responsible) for genocide is wrong, and making that a reason not to vote for Harris was foolish. And now everything is so much worse.
May 14, 2025 at 4:41 AM
Because it's absurd to blame Biden for fifty plus years of US policy toward Israel and a hard right Israeli PM hell bent on crushing Gaza.
May 14, 2025 at 3:49 AM
When all is said and done, I think a lot of pundits will have to come around to acknowledging that wrongly blaming Biden for genocide pushed voters to elect a fascist who wants to forcibly remove every Palestinian from Gaza so it can be rebuilt as an Israeli beach resort.

I'm with you 100% on what the script should be. But nobody other than Pritzker has picked that lane. I don't agree that Newsom's approach means he's turned MAGA. But I guess we'll see.
May 6, 2025 at 6:17 AM
And that means what? That he's MAGA now and going to order law enforcement to cooperate with ICE? CA sued on tariffs 2 weeks ago So yeah, I think it more likely that he's looking to get a reaction that helps that case v. him turning MAGA.

Attempting to, yes. As is every other democratic Governor. There is no script for dealing with a wannabe king who is destroying the country. Newson is frustrated and it shows, but I just don't see this as some ploy to court Republicans or a quid pro quo.
May 6, 2025 at 5:58 AM
I don't think Newsom is getting anything for a post proposing a policy that's proven effective in lieu of another idiotic tariff. I hate the pandering and think Newsom is increasingly tone deaf. But I find it troubling that the automatic response is to assume malevolence.

I think there's virtually zero chance that the regime will create a $7.5 billion tax credit for the film industry. But in refusing to do so, they make their suggestion that not filming in the US is a matter of national security look even more ridiculous and more likely to be struck down by a Court.
May 6, 2025 at 5:42 AM
Newsom has made some bad decisions, but I'm unclear as to why folks think it's a problem for him to try to get a 7.5 billion tax credit for a core LA industry. Is he pandering? Yes. Would his proposal benefit California (the state he represents)? Also yes.
May 6, 2025 at 5:38 AM
No it's not. It's fascism 101 and should be called out as such.
