The first two photos show my Granda Patton. The second two show my daddy Bill Patton (his son). I’m proud of the ship-building men in my family, who suffered and died to build the ships that made Harland and Wolff famous. This is my history.
A black and white photo of the men who build Titanic at Harland and Wolff Belfast. My Granda is lying across the front A close up of my Granda, lying across the bottom front of the photo. A photo of a group of welders at H&W Belfast in 1987. My daddy is in the front with his arms crossed, wearing a shirt and tie under his overalls because she was a foreman in charge. A close up of my daddy. White hair, dark eyes and a steely look of no nonsense. He’s got his shirt and tie on under his green H&W overalls (photo is in black and white)

I was *very briefly* confused as to why this sunglasses-wearing, moustachioed fella had such a long neck. Thought it was just another ‘AI gone wrong’ deal.
Then I just zoomed in and was disappointed by the normality of both of the Trump cheerleaders/ navy guys 😐
leannehitchmough.bsky.social
Such a load of cringe on a cracker utter shite…
the AI video is a feckin‘ cheese-fest too.

As we say in Ireland: America - I’m pure scundered for you.

Her “the last time I checked…” patronising arrogance before stating a load of tripe really is the cherry on the cake.

Northern Ireland is an inconvenience to them. Dealing with our specific (and highly sensitive) complications is an annoying irritation. it shows on their faces and in their words.

Weird late 90s memory unlocked this morning watching Frasier - the red sign says “Please no smoking in the waiting room”. The waiting room is in a maternity ward 😱Halcyon days 😐
Then…I saw the sign in black behind them -“If you need assistance in paying for your hospital stay…” Shivers.
#NHS 🙏
Frasier episode from 1998. Frasier, Niles and Martin Crane are in the maternity ward waiting room - waiting for Roz to give birth. The red sign asks people not to smoke. Asks them politely. This is the world we once all lived in, surrounded by toxic cigarette smoke. Now we just breathe in toxic car exhaust fumes 😐 The three fellas again - all smiling because Roz was just wheeled past them, ready to give birth. The sign behind them asks people to contact customer services if they need assistance in paying for their hospital stay. This still shocks me to the core as a UK citizen. The NHS has its troubles, yes, but at least we don’t have to worry about the bill for our cancer treatment, etc.

This photo is an absolute beaut. How lucky you are to have a gorgeous piece of history like this - and how proud you just be of both of them. Thank you for sharing today.

post specifically for any Brits:
Jimmy Carr always was, is and will forever be a tremendous ‘water anchor’ - no surprises there.
But…Omid Djalili? Money must be tight, eh?
At least he won’t get mistaken for Alexei Sayle ever again smh. Bonus benefit for Alexei Sayle.

Ah, right. Thanks for the update 👍

If this photo was taken in the UK, then this might explain the state of the railway track…

Yes, that’s it! Ta for helping my memory there.
Side note: there are many public access walking paths like this here in Somerset (after the Beeching railway line closures in the late 60s) and tunnels like this freak me out. Every. Single. Time.
Beautiful, but eerie.

I’ve always loved the mystery of the second, already lit, cigarette just dangling on the table edge. It’s a really wonderful scene of contentment before the storm of the new day ahead.
Love this painting (and I’m a non-smoker 😊)

After breakfast, c.1900 by Finnish painter Elin Danielson-Gambogi #WomensArt #Tuesday
Painting featuring a white woman dressed in white sitting looking right at a Breakfast table leaning on her arm in a casual way, on the table are the remnants of a meal and a teapot, behind the figure the interior wall has her drawings pinned to it

Short answer…fomenting discord.

Longer answer: actively encouraging and supporting the breakdown of the very fabric of our civil society and destroying the emotional wellbeing of our communities and our country. In plain view.

Go raibh maith agat, Sadik

Your thread here today is necessary, and important. You have been a breath of fresh air for North Somerset. Your dedication to your job and to (all) the people who live in this area is admirable. GRMA.

Honest to God, before I realised there was a long microphone in front of him, I thought Rubio had chosen to wear a massive lapel jacket à la 1970s hustlers. Nice.

Also, his plasticised face has finally come in handy to help him listen to this utter drivel, on camera, beside the friggin’ king.

Siouxsie Sioux just called…said she’s absolutely delighted with Delta and thinks he’s the bestest wee punk pup she’s ever seen ☺️
80s style hugs and kisses all round 🥰❤️🥰

Good point, well made

Side note: has he not been watching this series of Southpark? Beautifully subversive as shit. A different medium perhaps, but just as beautifully subversive.
That’s the problem - Palin may choose not to watch ‘modern stuff’. It’s easier to revel in the past. And moan. Nowadays

This is a masterclass in cringeworthy creepiness. No notes.

It only takes five minutes to find out why this region is called NORTH Karelia.

Russia has flexed far too many times against this great nation.

The Finns know the score. They know exactly what’s at risk. They stand proudly with Ukraine. All power to them. Sisu.

Finland builds fence at eastern frontier, now a critical Nato border with Russia
In North Karelia the border guard is training conscripts, the only road crossing is empty – but there is still some limited cross-border cooperation

I’m well jel ❤️
Also, kudos to Tim Curry for doing the double - 50th anniversary release of Rocky Horror. I’ve been able to get local cinema tickets for that. Phew 😅

I know exactly where this photo has been taken. This is akin to a dog peeing to mark its territory (and I don’t care if the paint is red/white/blue or green/white/orange). It’s a highly sectarian move, to intimidate and promote discord.
Is this what mainland UK is moving towards? Backwards?
Shivers.

Interesting to see that only the Cyrillic letters CC are visible here from under his gilet (CCCP in full, as you know).
Hmmm…CC…SS…unintentionally providing us all with a window to his true evil nazi soul.

For those in the UK, with access to BBC Sounds, this is such an
interesting insight into Coleridge-Taylor’s wildly popular The Song of Hiawatha.

Fyi, Angie Lewin fabrics and wallpaper designs are available at www.stjudesfabrics.co.uk/collections/...

Her work is stunning and just a metre of fabric allows you to have a small portion of her genius in your home 😊
(Other fantastic printmakers are available at St. Judes too ❤️)

So, at first glance, I legitimately thought Petunia was holding a wee pink cup of puppy beverage.
I am now 5 seconds older and wiser 😁
leannehitchmough.bsky.social
My. Thoughts. Exactly. Ta 👍

Also, the article tagline “Rethinking the Luddites in the age of AI” - eye roll to infinity 🙄

(having said all this, kudos to the academic for finding a wee contemporary golden nugget in the world of Luddite research 😁)
