This sort of absurd, ultra-bleak reading of the remarkable prosperity of modern societies is not only embarrassingly wrong - and I saw a historian retweet this sincerely (!!) - but also helps fuel not materialist, left-wing politics, but rather reactionary right-wing politics ('RETVRN-ism').

Why blame geography when it's clear your friends were completely hollow from the get-go. It's not brainwashing if they never held any serious convictions in the first place.

I didn't imply that. I said he saw violence as necessary (implying that it's for historical reasons).

Defending the morality of Marx's analysis in this way isn't very marxist, because Marx wasn't some kind of moralist.

It does seem relevant that the New Testament is broadly pacifist whereas Marx saw violent revolution as necessary. It wouldn't even make sense to claim to be orthodox Marxist and pacifist.

What does that have to do with a fitness wearable? Are Apple Watch sales going to fall off a cliff because of Apple Intelligence?

I thought we were talking about Oura?

What leads you to believe that is more likely, considering their accelerating sales growth?

Meta's stock fell due to profit shortfall and greater than anticipated spending in their last earnings call. Investors do follow these numbers closely.

Revenue numbers are based on sales projections, not stock valuation. Those are distinct things.
