How can educators navigate growing student numbers with shrinking resources? Unpacking the pressures on educators and solutions for student success at scale.

Impact on learning and teaching. Larger cohorts mean less 1:1 time, making personalised feedback & deeper learning difficult. Basic questions consume contact time, leaving little room for critical thinking or deeper exploratory learning.

Address diverse learning needs. Embedding asynchronous resources within a curriculum can address diverse learning needs, helping get students up to speed on techniques, concepts & quantitative skills. This frees in-person time for deeper learning.

The need for scalable support. Utilising technologies that give instant, personalised feedback saves time & allows educators to provide more dedicated support to the students that need it most, whatever the cohort size.

Plan for inclusive
learning, In Chemistry, planning for diverse needs from the outset creates environments where every learner, despite varied prior knowledge or confidence, has a fair chance to succeed.

Flexible learning fuels success. Chemistry students engage with learning at different paces and with varied styles. Offering flexible resources & immediate feedback helps meet them where they are & supports diverse learning needs.

Design for learning equity. For large Chemistry cohorts, accessible learning shouldn’t rely on individual adjustments. Building inclusion into
curriculum design means education works for every learner, not just the majority.
