MAYbe, by removing the fact-checking element, people can look at social media and say, "Well, there's nobody checking now, so it must all be nonsense. I refuse to believe any of it." Kind of a reverse psych job.

While true, what fact-checking that was being performed did not seem to equate to a better informed public. Would a well informed electorate REALLY elect a sexually abusive, misogynistic, racist convicted felon with a compulsion for lying to the highest position in government?
