Love these gorgeous fox doorknockers I’m adding to my collection. They were gifted to me by the principal of a local school after I delivered my workshop where we designed secret doorways! My son has already put a claim on one of them . . .

In today’s school visit, we imagined characters through their suitcases! Taking inspiration from my book The Secret of Zoone, we developed fun ideas for characters such as Candy Smuggler, Shapeshifting Spy, Magical Creature Spy, etc., & filled their suitcases with the items that defined them.

Ooh! Love these dragon eggs that students crafted in connection to Kendra Kandlestar and the Box of Whispers. Gorgeous!

Fun school visit today talking all things Kendra and Zoone. And I might have just achieved the pinnacle of my career; Kendra’s Land of Een made it on the classroom’s signpost pointing to fantastical realms!

Presenting to my son’s own classroom is always a different sort of author visit! We had fun designing the contents of a monster’s fridge—here the kids have decided to temporarily abandon their own fridges and add to the one I’m modelling at the front.

In my imagination, this a drowning snowperson. Did they run afoul of the dreaded Snowflake Gang?

A frozen forest in miniature. When I spotted this on a winter walk, I imagined tiny explorers trekking through this foreboding—but beautiful—landscape.

From our snowshoe walk on New Year’s Day, this author’s eye offers you a witch or wizard of the wintery wood, cloaked in a mantle of snow, head bowed in supplication.

The inside of the bell of a faux-antique phonograph, which I encountered during our family summer vacation. Time to sound in the new year! Brought to you by AEye (Author’s Eye, which is far more gratifying than AI).

A photo of a simple tangle of rope, snapped on our summer holiday—if you ask me, it’s a mermaid clinging to the corner of a lobster cage. Once she was pulled from the depths of the ocean and struck by sunlight, she was transformed.

Like everyone else, I inadvertently snap photos with my phone. I end up keeping many of them because of the patterns, shapes, or ideas I’ve captured. This one feels halfway to a dream. Let’s just call this AI (accidental intelligence)!

A little mushroom family spotted by the seven-year-old and me as we trekked home from school one day last week. We imagined these little folk were on the move—but we never decide if they were escaping peril or seeking adventure . . .
